Our History

Kharchu Ugyen Yoebar Center of New York Inc.

Established on July 27, 2019, by His Holiness the Seventh Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche, the Kharchu Ugyen Yoebar Center is a non-profit Buddhist organization rooted in the Nyingma tradition, the oldest school of Tibetan Buddhism. The center is dedicated to preserving and propagating the teachings of the *Jangter* (Northern Treasures), an esteemed lineage of revealed texts (*termas*) that rank among the earliest spiritual treasures in Tibetan Buddhism. These teachings, attributed to the 14th-century master Rigdzin Gödem, emphasize profound meditation practices, rituals, and philosophical study central to the Nyingma tradition.

Under the guidance of Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche—a revered reincarnate lama and custodian of this lineage—the center fosters spiritual growth through structured programs in Buddhist philosophy, meditation sessions, contemplative practices, and community service. By integrating these activities, the center aims to transmit Tibetan Buddhist values in New York, offering a space for education, inner reflection, and compassionate outreach. Its mission extends beyond spiritual practice to include cultural preservation and intercommunity harmony, serving as a bridge between ancient wisdom and modern urban life.   Through workshops, retreats, and collaborative initiatives, the Kharchu Ugyen Yoebar Center embodies a commitment to nurturing mindfulness, ethical living, and altruism, ensuring the Jangter lineage remains accessible to diverse practitioners in the heart of New York.

At our institution, we are committed to providing a stimulating learning environment that enriches Buddhist philosophy education. Our primary focus is on fostering personal and intellectual growth in our students, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives and pursue meaningful careers, even if they leave the ordination. We believe that every individual has growth potential and that our responsibility as educators is to encourage this growth and provide the tools necessary to achieve it. We are dedicated to creating a culture of learning and growth that is tailored to the needs of each student. Our top-notch services are designed to support our community in every way possible, whether it be through academic excellence, spiritual development, or emotional growth

As ordained practitioners can only uphold the continuity of Buddha Dharma, it is of paramount importance to ensure the survival of monastic institutions where Buddha Dharma is taught and preserved.

Kyabje Rinpoche works tirelessly to preserve and maintain the continuity of Buddha Dharma in Bhutan and beyond. The immense responsibility of supporting 700 monks (and growing), eight monasteries, two meditation centers, and numerous religious and charitable activities are borne mainly by Kyabje Rinpoche himself.

Kharchu Ugyen Yoebar Center of New York Inc. aims to share this noble responsibility with the Kyabje Rinpoche and his future reincarnations for all times to come.
